I made a Pasta Bake! After a Frosty New Years in Scotland, and spending the day at my boyfriend's place, I decided that I did not want toast and melted cheese for my breakfast. So After rummaging around on the internet for a few minutes I compiled a bake I'd enjoy. I only thought to take pictures at the end, but I can confirm it was a messy process!
Sauce
1/4 cup of Butter
4 tsp of flour
4 Cloves of Garlic
1-2 cups of Milk
1/2 bag of Spinach
1 Bay Leaf
1 Pinch of nutmeg
1/2 Cup of Cheddar Cheese
Pepper + Salt to taste
2 - 2 1/2 cups of Macaroni Pasta
Bread Crumbs
Bonus Cheese
Add Macaroni Pasta to a pot of boiling water. Your supposed to add salt to pastas, but I ways forget. I've not found any real difference in the flavour, one way or the other. The walls have yet to melt for my blasphemy.
Saucy Instructions
Melt your Butter in a Sauce pan. In my limited experience cooking properly, its best to use actual Butter. I live in a hostel and we get cheepy cheep 'spread' which I've used before, usually out of desperation. I don't like using it mostly because it doesn't like to melt. A concerning thing.
Add finely sliced garlic and allow to simmer on medium heat. Add flower until the butter turns slightly thick. I usually turn my cream sauces into a thick, thick paste, almost playdoughy, but this time I needed the garlic to keep being simmered.
Once in soft pasty form start adding milk until thick and creamy. Add Bay Leaf, Spinach, Grated Cheese, Nutmeg, salt and pepper. Add the flavoury stuff to taste, and I used to go overboard with the cheese. (MORE MORE MOAR!!) But sometimes less is more, even with cheese.
Put the cooked pasta in a baking pan of some kind. Most people say to use a casserole pan, but I'm not so blessed in the hostel. A metal pan works just as fine as anything else. Pour sauce over Macaroni and mix slightly, then sprinkle cheese and bread crumbs on top. Put in oven at 180 Degrees Celsius and leave for 20 -30 minutes.
Thus I ate my breakfast.
