I have a few undertakings a head of me I have to think and plan for. I'm seeing someone named Will, and we've got a few cool places we want to see, plus a few folk coming over to visit me in the spring.
THE PLAN
My plan is to do more out door wilderness stuff. I'm growing more fold of it as I get older. While I have respect the story of Into The Wild, I have no plans to be so foolish, or hopefully I am not that foolish. Up until now, I've been borrowing ones lying about in the hostel, and really I could just abscond with one but someone else might come to this place and someone else might realize how cool camping is and not have the money to just up and buy a sleeping bag for a few days in the woods.
Summer camping Fun Fact: the clothes don't mater, just the walking shoes and the warmth. |
Essentially, I need to get a sleeping bag. Built like a sparrow, I have a problem maintaining my heat, so when I go camping, my concern is always if I will be warm enough. Thankfully living in a very outdoorsy area, I've been able to learn a fair amount based entirely on word of mouth and experience, the rest coming from the internet.
So when it came to looking for a Sleeping Bag I wanted something warm but packable. I'm built like a sparrow and don't walk nearly as much as I should. It needs to be light so I don't blow an ankle halfway along the trail.
I looked at 3 seasons first, and Will affirmed this direction.Specifically I was looking for something that could withstand weather here and Canadian late fall weather. I also wanted down, since I've never really gone wrong with it in my clothes and it seemed to be far more compressible than many of the synthetic ones I've looked at.
I stumbled on to the Rab Accent 700 (Womens). It has the extreme temperature of - 31 degrees Celsius, a temperature I have seen.

Enter the Vango Venom 200 (genderless)
Not nearly as heavy, packs lighter and much, much cheaper than its purple counterpart. Only problem is its limit is - 9 C. That's not very cold in my books. So, do I risk utter frostiness or do I spend the extra dosh to get the warmth I need.
Yet there lives in existence a think which could save me, my wallet and my cold feet. The Sleeping Bag Liner. I thought it was just for paranoid people, fearful of sweat and marauding bugs. Not so! Apparently I am still very much learning.
Thus I am getting the spider man villain named bag, and though I should like something more based on a name, I do. The name wont keep me warm but it will amuse me. Perhaps its named after his tongue...
