Bows up!

Archery. I've loved archery since before it was done by these three awesome folk below!

And briefly I got into it fully, buying the bow and practicing in my yard at home. But an intense final year of schooling followed by an on again off again depression two years after that squandered a lot of my love for things like horses and fantasy in favour of nothing at all.

For a time I had a horse, a Clydesdale crossed with Arabian named Stan. He was trained as a draft horse, not a riding horse, and was about 14 years old when after years of disuse I started to show interest. I spent a year and a half training and breaking him in before my depression set in heavy enough that it made it difficult to want to go outside, despite the joyful, though some times reluctant, face waiting for me to love him when I got at the barn.

So now I'm happy, really happy and getting back into the things I love doing outside. Archery is one of them. I wasn't really ever thinking of getting back into it, but I've been following Cold Antler Farm Blogger, Jenna, watched her riding and shooting like I'd always dreamed and felt a surge of interest in my heart. I didn't think I'd be able to do it. I live in a hostel, which is not really conducive to much other than sleeping, reading, writing and the occasional drink. There's not a big back yard, and what of it there is I find taken up by shed, staff members and hedges to neighbors houses who I'm sure would more than love a broken window from my practices.
This pic bellow was my first bow, or something like it. Built more for an adult and slightly different notches for the string (I don't know the technical terms yet), it did alright for me, when friends weren't firing the arrows at tin walls.
It was a kit along this line.
The new one I'm getting is along these lines.

This is the bow. The Phantom  Recurve Bow Kit. Its a 60" bow, and clearly comes with 3 arrows, an apparently easy draw of 20 lbs and ambidextrous, so I can share with lefties.

I'm excited to learn to use it with this one but once I get good enough I'd like one with a stronger draw so I can get stronger :)

It's come in the mail!!! I'm very excited. The joys of being in a diverse hostel means that I get diverse set of opinions, Though everyone has been supportive, I've gotten flack for it not being a "Proper hunting bow". It was not my intention to get one. Firstly, Archery, in my research is an expensive sport for those who really want to get in to it. The purpose for the less expensive bow is to see if I really like it before I go and plunge large quantities of my money into it. Other people are super encouraging, though give me the standard sceptical look I've always been used to.

Hopefully I get good at this.
